GPS Surveyor

Southern Land Company is a full-service company involved in planning, architecture, design, and construction. The GPS Surveyor will perform precise construction layout and surveying using GPS and robotic total stations to support grading, utilities, and site development projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications.

Responsibilities

Conduct construction layout for grading, utilities, and structures using GPS and total station equipment
Operate and maintain surveying instruments including GPS rover, robotic total station, and data collectors
Interpret construction drawings and specifications for accurate layout and staking
Collect and record field data, ensuring accuracy and completeness
Maintain calibration and proper functionality of all survey equipment
Prepare and maintain survey records, sketches, and digital files
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field crews to ensure layout meets project requirements
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving layout discrepancies
Perform additional assignments as directed by management
Ability to work as a collaborative team player is a must
Manage numerous projects and tasks simultaneously
Meet deadlines for deliverables with limited supervision
Possess strong work ethic
Maintain valid driver’s license
Perform other duties as directed or as appropriate to share team workload
Comply with OSHA and company safety standards at all times
Conduct pre-task hazard assessments and ensure proper PPE usage
Inspect survey equipment and work areas for hazards prior to use
Report any incidents, near misses, or equipment issues immediately
Hold employees accountable for adherence to safety policies

Required

Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record per company standards
OSHA 10-hour certification required; OSHA 30 preferred
Must obtain and maintain CPR and first aid training
Basic math skills and understanding of surveying principles
At least two years of college education from an accredited degree program in Engineering or Construction; technical training in surveying preferred
Strong knowledge of GPS surveying techniques and principles
Familiarity with aerial surveying, photogrammetry, and LiDAR technology
FAA Part 107 drone pilot's license or equivalent certification
Minimum of 3 years of experience in GPS surveying and drone operations
Civil construction, engineering, or equivalent experience, preferred
Previous experience with GPS and robotic total stations strongly preferred

Preferred

OSHA 30 certification
Familiarity with AutoCAD
