Student- Career Development Assistant (Spring 2026)
Southwestern Michigan College is seeking a Career Development Assistant to support the Office of Career Development. This entry-level position offers hands-on experience in administrative and career services functions, allowing students to develop practical skills in communication, event planning, and student engagement.

Responsibilities
Plan and complete career-related projects to develop print and digital resources for students
Help coordinate and execute campus events, including the annual Spring Career Fair
Greet and assist students through the career services intake process
Participate in department meetings and brainstorming sessions, with the opportunity to attend community-based meetings
Maintain SMC’s online career services platform, Handshake, by updating information, cleaning out past student accounts, posting positions for employers, and sending communication
Prepare, maintain, and organize office materials and resources
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED
Basic clerical skills, computer skills
Excellent customer service and communication abilities
Ability to work in person up to 20 hours per week
Ability to manage time effectively, and work independently and collaboratively
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, creativity, and a professional attitude
Must be enrolled at the College on a full-time or part-time basis (minimum of 6 credit hours during fall and spring semesters and 3 credit hours during the summer semester); contact hours will not be used to meet the 6 credit hour minimum
All student employees must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to be eligible for student employment
Preferred
Experience with EXCEL, PowerPoint, Word, and Canva or other design platforms
Ability to work on Mondays and Wednesdays during the times of 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. within the 10-20 hour weekly schedule
