Cloud Engineer
Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Cloud Engineer to work on their Infrastructure & Operations team. Responsibilities
Apply operational cloud infrastructure and technical support across distributed and hybrid architectures to ensure functionality, security, compliance, and process automation principles, theories, and concepts to provide solutions for a variety of environments and application hosting needs
Plan, develop, and implement solutions to complex automation problems and major projects
Work to support project plans and requirements, establish scope, cost and schedule estimates for design and development activities
Participate in technical reviews for projects at various phases of development and provide recommendations for computer technology solutions to customers and management’s needs
Maintain and upgrade a variety of services for data protection, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for hosted and on-premise workloads
Manage and optimize cloud resources to ensure cost-efficiency, performance, and availability
Monitor system performance, reliability, system health, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely resolutions to minimize downtime
Collaborate with cross-functional teams(DevSecOps, Cyber, Architects, Network, Data Scientists, AI Engineers) to define cloud strategies, architecture, platforms, and best practices
Evaluates and integrates AI/ML services into cloud architectures to enhance automation, observability, and operational intelligence
Implement and manage cloud security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
Automate deployment, monitoring, and management processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and practices
Create and review new methodologies and architectures that advance the organizations’ mission and build security into the process of application development and delivery
Ensure compliance with INL’s safety, security, environmental, health and quality assurance requirements
Document activities, reports, and existing technologies
Write and present technical papers representing the INL
Review and analyze source code and system design documentation, reports from users, and other technical artifacts to create reports and present to other staff and management assessments of code quality, the probable origin and implications of defects and anomalies, and recommendations for improvements and enhancements
Engage in professional development to maintain technical proficiency in current and emerging technologies
Utilize expertise to define strategic direction in assigned areas
Mentor junior engineers
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or related field and at least 5 years of direct professional experience for Level 3
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or related field and at least 9 years of direct professional experience for Level 4
Experience in lieu of education commensurate with a High School diploma or equivalent and at least 11 years of direct/professional experience for Level 3
High School diploma or equivalent and at least 15 years of direct/professional experience for Level 4
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'L' clearance, which requires US Citizenship
Preferred
Professional certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect and Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Proficiency in cloud platforms such as AWS or Microsoft Azure
Strong understanding of cloud architecture, including compute, storage, networking, and security components
Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
Familiarity with automation and configuration management tools like Ansible and Terraform
Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
