EDUCATION FINANCE - ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

The University of Vermont is seeking a quantitatively trained Assistant Professor of Education Finance for a full-time, tenure-track position in the Department of Education, starting in Fall 2026. The role involves leading graduate programs, engaging in impactful research, and mentoring students in educational leadership and finance.

Responsibilities

Engage in the development, expansion, and leadership of nationally recognized graduate programs (M.Ed., Ed.D., and Ph.D.) with a focus on state and local funding mechanisms, education finance, and educational outreach related to the institution’s land grant mission
Engage in an active program of research resulting in high-impact publications and presentations
Seek external funding for research, scholarly activities, and/or program development
Teach, supervise, and advise master’s and doctoral students in the EDLP program
Mentor doctoral students in the design and implementation of quantitative inquiry in education leadership, policy, and finance studies
Collaborate with other EDLP faculty as we strive for continual program and course innovation
Collaborate with faculty colleagues on cross-disciplinary teaching, research, and scholarship
Engage in the community through partnerships with colleagues in public school districts, non-profits, social service agencies, and education-related organizations
Engage in service within the University and profession
Participate in state and national accreditation initiatives

Required

Earned doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, Finance, or Policy: Economics of Education, or closely related area (or anticipated degree completion no later than July 2026)
Ability to teach courses in two or more of the following areas: education finance, introduction to quantitative research methods, program evaluation, data management in organizations, educational management and leadership, advanced quantitative methods, network improvement communities
Experience with education funding and public finance research, preferably situated in either Pre-K-12 public education systems
Current knowledge of educational leadership theory, research, and practices in the U.S
Current knowledge of educational finance research, theory, and practice
Record of, or potential for scholarship, teaching, and service in the area of educational finance
Demonstrated strength in leading, conceptualizing, designing, conducting, publishing, and presenting relevant research and scholarship related to education finance
Successful college/university teaching experience
