Responsibilities
Assists in preparing and processing animal tissues for histopathological interpretation by a veterinary pathologist
Conducts routine histopathologic techniques
Performs the routine duties of primary histotechnician, and conducts special stains
Maintains records on tissues and specimens processed and stained for examination by pathologists
Assists in preparing special stain and H&E reagent solutions, as needed and serves as a back-up to the technician in charge of this duty
Maintains the histopathology laboratory and all storage areas in a clean and orderly state
Coordinates with other departments on research or special projects
Assists with clerical duties, including answering the phone, filling out forms, and mailing out laboratory samples as needed
Qualification
Required
High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
Four years' experience working in a public health, veterinary medical, medical, clinical, or research lab. Post-secondary education may be substituted in lieu of experience
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Rabies immunization or proof of adequate rabies titer required
Preferred
Bachelor's
One to two years of experience as a histotechnician
