The City of San Diego is seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to lead the Automation and Process Control group for the Public Utilities Department. The role involves overseeing the operation and maintenance of various control systems and ensuring their reliability and performance through design and implementation of enhancements.

Responsibilities

Administer and supervise the Automation and Process Control group for the Public Utilities Department

Operate and maintain the Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Department Information Network (DIN), Facility Information Network (FIN), and the Process Information Network (PIN)

Review designs and standardization of the control systems within and between facilities

Evaluate and oversee the design, development, implementation, and testing of systems related to area of responsibility

Develop and implement system enhancements to improve reliability and performance

Prepare reports and correspondence

Interview, train, evaluate, and rate subordinates

Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Four years of full-time professional industrial engineering project management experience which MUST include supervisory and managerial duties

Registration as a Professional Control Systems or Electrical Engineer with the State of California

A valid California Class C Driver's License is required at the time of hire

Proof of registration as a Professional Control Systems or Electrical Engineer with the State of California

For City of San Diego employees, proof of Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA), if utilized to meet the minimum requirements

Preferred

Progressively responsible experience in the design, programming, configuration, or maintenance of control systems, process automation, or industrial instrumentation systems, preferably in a water or wastewater treatment environment

DCS/SCADA programming/configuration experience with Ovation/WonderWare/Mondicon PLCs

Experience in process automation, control logic implementation, and instrumentation integration

Knowledge of applicable safety, cybersecurity, and control system standards (e.g., ISA, NIST)
