The Infrastructure team is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead efforts in scaling mapping infrastructure and enhancing the mapping schema while collaborating with other teams to support safe autonomous driving.

Responsibilities
Lead a team of software engineers to help us scale our mapping infrastructure and to transform the mapping schema
Evaluate and launch machine learning models that automatically generate map from raw data
Work with onboard teams to evolve Waymo’s mapping format to make it more automation friendly
Build backend infrastructure for storing and processing many forms of map data
Scale our systems to support mapping the whole world
Qualification
Required
Experienced technical leader (or as a people manager)
7+ years of industry experience
Proven track record of leading a team to solve difficult technical challenges
Experience with large-scale data processing using frameworks like Google Data Flow or Apache Beam
Willingness to own problems end-to-end and work on various parts of the system
A passion for good software engineering
Preferred
M.S. or Ph.D in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience
Experience in Mapping and Localization
