Receptionist, Dental
Southeastern Michigan Health Association (SEMHA) is seeking a Dental Receptionist who serves as the first point of contact for dental patients. This role is responsible for greeting patients, managing appointment schedules, verifying insurance, collecting payments, and maintaining accurate records to ensure smooth daily operations in a fast-paced dental care environment.

Responsibilities
Greet and check in dental patients in a courteous and professional manner
Schedule, confirm, and reschedule dental appointments using the electronic dental record (EDR) system
Coordinate and maintain calendars for school-based dental screenings and treatment days
Communicate with school staff and parents/guardians regarding appointments, consents, and follow-up care
Verify dental insurance coverage, collect co-pays, and process payments
Ensure accurate registration, documentation, and transfer of school-based visit data into EDR
Prepare and distribute appointment reminders and follow-up instructions
Assist in tracking patient data and coordinating outreach communications
Cross-trained to provide scheduling and front desk coverage for medical and behavioral health departments
Serves as a backup receptionist for medical and behavioral services during staff absences or peak times
Supports unified front desk workflows to ensure smooth patient check-in, registration, and insurance verification across departments
Answer incoming calls and respond to patient inquiries or route to appropriate staff
Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming front desk and waiting area
Follow HIPAA and patient confidentiality protocols at all times
Participate in regular front desk team meetings and quality improvement initiatives
Support special projects, reporting, and other administrative duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Familiarity with electronic medical records systems
Strong organizational and multitasking skills with high attention to detail
Experience with insurance verification and dental billing processes
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Valid Driver License & reliable transportation required
High School Diploma or GED required
Preferred
Associate's degree or training in healthcare administration
Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a dental or healthcare office setting
