Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Core Laboratory - Special Hematology

Responsibilities
Perform high complexity coagulation testing using both manual and automated methods
Perform assays using the ELISA method
Perform assays consisting of multiple dilutions requiring impeccable technique
Perform esoteric platelet aggregation testing
Perform hemoglobinopathy testing
Assist on bone marrow biopsy procedures and process the specimens obtained
Assist in implementing and validating new procedures
Actively engage in continuing education in order to enhance the department, including a willingness to attend conferences whenever possible
Accommodate emergencies, if necessary, by adjusting work hours accordingly
Line responsibility for the performance of clinical analysis in the Department of Laboratories
Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as assigned according to established protocols to ensure proper instrument performance
Adhere to all quality control policies and procedures
Proficient in computer protocols as assigned
Adhere to all SBUH and departmental policies and protocols
Interact in a professional manner with nursing staff, physicians, support staff, peers, patients, and other members of the hospital community
Perform other clerical duties as assigned
Perform high complexity coagulation/chemistry testing using both manual and automated methods
Perform assays consisting of multiple dilutions requiring impeccable technique
Incumbent will be required to work every other weekend. Pass days and holidays as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelors' of Science degree in Medical Technology/Biological or Life Sciences
NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility
SL-1: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility, including provisional/limited permit eligibility with 0-2 years demonstrated relevant experience
SL-2: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility, including provisional/limited permit eligibility with 3-5 years demonstrated relevant experience
SL-3: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility, including provisional/limited permit eligibility with a minimum 6 years demonstrated relevant experience
Preferred
Three or more years full-time experience in a College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited laboratory performing Hematology and Coagulation testing
At least one year performing specialized testing such as factor assays, hemoglobinopathy evaluation, platelet aggregation, ELISA assays, or other relevant testing

Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($3400)
Night shift differential ($15,000)
Evening shift differential ($10,000)
Inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential. ($575)
