Flynn Fellowship Oncology Student Nurse Internship - Per Diem

Yale New Haven Health is offering the Flynn Fellowship Oncology Student Nurse Internship aimed at fostering the professional development of future Oncology Nurses. The internship provides students with hands-on experience in various oncology nursing roles and responsibilities, enhancing their clinical education through direct observation and exposure to oncology nursing care.

Health Care

Responsibilities

Demonstrates basic skill in observing, assessing and communicating patient needs
Identifies changes in patient's condition and reports pertinent and concise information to members of the healthcare team in conjunction with RN mentor
Demonstrates basic skill in planning and providing direct patient care
Accepts report with RN mentor on patient assignment
Completes non-therapeutic functions as directed
Follows correct procedure in performing non-therapeutic functions as directed/supervised by RN mentor
Demonstrates accountability and responsibility in performance of role
Attendance meets Human Resources Student Nurse Intern guidelines
Demonstrates development in professional growth through daily activities
Identifies areas in performance needing improvement
Performs decentralized laboratory testing as credentialed and following established policies and procedures
Appropriately collects specimens (stool specimen and/or blood glucose), performs tests and interprets results under the direction and/or supervision of RN mentor. If assigned to Labor and Delivery may also collect urine specimen

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Currently enrolled in an accredited School/Department of BSN program
Achieved and maintained a 3.0 GPA and be in good standing
Has successfully completed their school's Fundamental Nursing Skills Laboratory
Currently enrolled in or has completed at least one semester of relevant clinical

Preferred

Two (2) reference letters from recent professors, teachers, and/or clinical staff (within the last 3 years)
1-2 page essay on why you are interested in becoming an oncology nurse
