Development Services - Inspector I-II (Plans Examiner/Code Compliance)

Park County Government is seeking an Inspector I-II to perform inspections and ensure compliance with county codes and regulations. The role involves inspecting construction sites, investigating complaints, processing permit applications, and assisting the public with construction-related inquiries.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Inspect buildings during construction to ensure compliance with the building code, other applicable requirements and approved plans and specifications
Investigate complaints and make inspections of existing buildings to determine if hazardous or unsafe conditions exist relating to structures and their use
Inspect new and existing on-site wastewater systems
Inspect new and existing driveways
Assist and advise the general public in matters relating to construction and code requirements
Process permit applications
Review plans and specifications for construction projects to ensure compliance with codes and other applicable regulations
Inspect complaints regarding nuisances, land use, and ordinance(s) violations
Prepare written reports, issue notices to correct code violations, issue “stop work” notices, testify in court regarding violations
Assist and advise owners, contractors, designers, architects and engineers on code and design requirements for any construction project
Assist other inspectors on difficult or unusual code requirements for any construction project
Prepare and maintain records and reports of plan checking procedures
Prepare written reports, documentation and correspondences
Obtain and track information in the county’s permit data base, which may be accessed from the office or remotely
Support team members and the over-all goals of Development Services
May be required to respond to emergency situations
Perform other duties as assigned
The posting of property for variance and conditional use requests
Investigation and follow-up of complaints regarding nuisances and land use violations

Required

High School Diploma or GED
Valid Colorado driver's license
Must pass background check
Two to three years of experience in a trade or profession directly associated with construction practices (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical). Inspection experience or related technical education may substitute
Must obtain IRC building inspector certification within six-months of employment
Must obtain IBC building inspector certification within one-year of employment
Must obtain a National Waste Water Transport (NAWT) or other certification in wastewater treatment system inspection

Preferred

IBC Building Inspector Certification within one year of employment
National Association of Wastewater Technicians (NAWT) Certification (or equivalent) in wastewater system inspection within one year
Additional preferred specialized certifications including but not limited to fire, stormwater, plumbing, electrical
