Responsibilities

Collaborate with internal customers to document system and software specifications and constraints
Develop project scope, schedule, budget, and bill of materials
Communicate progress, milestones, and project changes, including financial and timeline impacts
Research, select, and integrate suitable technologies for automated systems and enterprise lab management solutions
Design and conduct rigorous laboratory experiments to identify best approaches and practices
Develop system/software concepts, engineer prototypes, and guide full-scale industrial builds
Build automated methods to collect, analyze, and collate production or research data; provide API/database access
Design, build, and maintain database objects and infrastructure
Debug software, equipment, and system issues on site
Implement software development best practices, including code management and documentation
Document progress, inventions, and designs via lab notebooks, reports, disclosures, and patent applications
Develop and maintain system, equipment, process, and software documentation for long-term accessibility
Develop, deploy, and test prototypes in laboratory and field environments, coordinating with external integrators as needed
Transfer technology and system/software expertise to customers and internal teams, including hands-on training and SOP development
Troubleshoot equipment and software, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
Ensure safety knowledge and best practices are up-to-date and followed
Seek out and collaborate with subject matter experts to broaden process and product understanding

Required

B.S. or M.S. degree in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Minimum 8+ years (MS/ME) or 12+ years (BS) of applications development and equipment engineering experience; designing and building electromechanical, automated, measurement, or software/data management systems for manufacturing/research environments
Proficient in software engineering (C/C++/C#, .NET, WPF, Visual Basic, Matlab, LabView, Python)
Experience with Oracle PL/SQL and database/reporting systems
User interface application development (WPF, WinForms, or similar)
Hardware/software integration: motion control programming, machine vision, automation
Strong data analysis, error analysis, and problem-solving skills
Project management: result-oriented, managing multiple projects and priorities

Preferred

Machine vision: camera/lens selection, lighting, image metrology/analysis
Motion control systems (Adept, Aerotech, Delta Tau, FANUC)
Statistical tools: DOE, measurement systems analysis
Process control: PID control, adaptive tuning
Gradient descent algorithms, linear algebra
Additional programming skills (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Vue, React, etc.)
Experience with modern development environments (Visual Studio, Toad, Git, Enterprise Architect)
