Post-Doc Research Associate - Bowser and Vaziri Labs

The UNC University Libraries is a global leader in higher education, and they are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department. The role focuses on investigating fundamental mechanisms of the DNA damage response and cell cycle regulation, contributing to research excellence and collaboration across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

Investigate fundamental mechanisms of the DNA damage response (DDR), cell cycle regulation, and their implications for genome stability, cancer biology, and therapeutic response
Collaborate with Dr. Kenneth Pearce and Dr. Blake Rushing to gain industry-relevant experience and access to complementary expertise
Design experiments, collect data, and perform necessary techniques in the field of DNA damage and cell cycle research
Communicate effectively through writing and speaking to various audiences
Manage time, projects, and resources effectively in a research environment
Adapt to new research directions, technologies, and work environments
Work independently to devise hypotheses and drive research forward
Collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary and collaborative teams

Required

Ph.D. in a biological science or related discipline, or equivalent degree, with strong background in molecular and cell biology
A strong and evolving base of knowledge in DNA damage and cell cycle fields
Independence and expertise in designing experiments, collecting data, and performing necessary techniques
Familiarity with ethical guidelines, regulations, and policies governing research
Understanding the processes for securing grants and publishing findings in scientific journals
Ability to communicate effectively through writing (manuscripts) and speaking (seminars, presentations) to various audiences
Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., GraphPad Prism) and strong analytical skills
Molecular techniques (e.g., cloning, gene editing, protein biochemistry and imaging, flow cytometry, cell culture, etc.)
Ability to learn new techniques quickly and efficiently
Ability to troubleshoot
Ability to manage time, projects, and resources effectively
Ability to write manuscripts and assist with text/figures for grant proposals
The capacity to adapt to new research directions, technologies, and work environments
The ability to work independently, devise hypotheses, and drive your own research
Analytical ability to identify problems and find effective solutions
Working effectively in interdisciplinary and collaborative teams
Skills to manage a project, collaborate with others, and facilitate teamwork
