Content Strategist
The NYC Campaign Finance Board is a nonpartisan agency dedicated to enhancing local democracy and voter engagement. The Content Strategist will lead the agency's content strategy across various platforms, focusing on creating educational materials to engage voters and support the NYC Votes initiative.

Responsibilities
Implement the CFB’s content strategy across web, social, and print, including agency websites, social media channels, email and SMS campaigns, and Voter Guide output
Create and maintain specialized content calendars built around key election dates and strategic ongoing goals for the Public Affairs division
Provide strategic guidance for organic and paid campaigns, including targeting strategies, budgets, messaging, and success metrics
Develop new approaches to adapt content and information to engage specific target audience groups among voters and potential voters, including underrepresented groups such as youth and immigrant voters
Grow public-facing awareness around all aspects of the CFB mission, from founding to current initiatives including the matching funds program and contributions
Leverage expanded partnerships with individuals and organizations to reinforce familiarity with NYC Votes information and grow credibility with internal and external audiences
Write and edit original content for voters, volunteers, partner organizations, and the general public
Directly supervise the Content Strategy team (Social Media Manager, Digital Media Manager, and other team members as needed) in the Marketing and Digital Communications unit
Set long-term standards of management and leadership throughout the unit, allowing staff members to assume responsibilities that will allow for ongoing professional development
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of digital content strategy across multiple platforms (web, social, print, SMS, email)
Knowledge of content planning practices, including how to build and maintain calendars tied to key events like elections
Familiarity with performance marketing principles, including paid vs. organic digital strategies
Knowledge of performance metrics and KPIs (e.g., engagement rates, open rates, impressions)
Familiarity with content accessibility standards (WCAG) and best practices for plain language
Awareness of current digital media trends and evolving platform capabilities
Understanding of content production workflows across web, design, social, and video
Ability to translate agency goals into actionable and audience-relevant content strategies
Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, especially in high-volume election seasons
Ability to synthesize feedback from multiple teams into a unified, compelling content direction
Ability to lead a team with respect, transparency, and accountability
Ability to interpret strategic plans and align daily content decisions with long-term objectives
Ability to recognize opportunities for content improvement and act without needing external prompts
Ability to foster collaboration across teams, breaking down silos while respecting boundaries
Ability to identify and escalate accessibility and EEO-related issues appropriately
Editorial and strategic writing: ability to craft persuasive, informative, plain-language content. Copywriting experience in the branding or agency world, understanding of how to use language in a concise yet meaningful way
Digital content planning: calendar management, campaign mapping, coordination across teams
Performance analysis: interpreting analytics and making data-informed content decisions
Team leadership: supervising, mentoring, and conducting performance management
Stakeholder communication: facilitating collaboration across internal and external partners
Experience working alongside Art Directors/Creative Directors on creative campaigns, has a trained eye for audience-right visuals
Project management: administer deadlines, priorities, and long-term deliverables simultaneously
Cultural competency: creating inclusive content and engaging respectfully with diverse communities
Technical literacy: navigating content tools (CMS, email platforms, analytics dashboards, social schedulers)
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public policy, or a related field; advanced degree or equivalent professional experience a plus
4–6 years of experience in digital content strategy, editorial planning, or cross-channel campaign execution
Demonstrated experience managing or contributing to multi-platform content ecosystems, including social media, websites, email/SMS, and paid digital advertising
Proven ability to develop content for diverse and multilingual audiences, with an understanding of accessibility and language access best practices. Facility with language(s) other than English would be a significant asset. Experience with running multilingual campaigns or working with multilingual creators
Strong understanding of editorial workflows, including managing content calendars and collaborating across creative, technical, and policy teams
Familiarity with New York City government, civic engagement initiatives, or voter education is highly desirable
Excellent communication and project management skills, with experience supervising or mentoring creative staff
