The Town of Culpeper is seeking a qualified and motivated planning professional to join our Planning & Community Development Department as a Planner. This position plays a vital role in guiding growth and development while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

Reviewing land use and development applications for compliance with ordinances, statutes, and regulations

Providing professional planning services and technical assistance to staff, applicants, and the public

Gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data related to land use, zoning, and community development

Supporting the Department Director and various boards and committees

Preparing plans and studies for special projects related to parks, trails, transportation, and economic development

Preparing grant applications and providing grant administration for assigned projects

Performing related duties as required

Required

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of planning and zoning

General knowledge of current literature and recent developments in the planning field

Ability to interpret and apply ordinances, regulations, and policies

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information clearly

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, officials, and the general public

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in urban planning, landscape architecture, or a related field and some experience in professional planning work
