Executive Director, Academic Technologies, Innovation & Research Computing

Responsibilities
Formulate technical strategy that is responsive to the needs of the Institute and demonstrates a forward leaning view of technology having direct impact on and responsibility for, research funding and general institutional funds
Plan, guide and create a long-range vision and develop it into an executable strategic research, digital learning, and enterprise innovation program for the Institute cyber-infrastructure strategic execution
Create and oversee the Enterprise Innovation Center
Enhance the regional and national brand reputation of Georgia Tech with current and future constituents in academia, government, and the private sector at relevant events
Support the department vice president in conducting programmatic, financial, technical, and business reviews of proposed and funded projects, for a program that explores and cultivates new research that develops and transitions the strategic research vision
Present research in strategic direction and technical overviews at professional and technical meetings
Identify opportunities for technical integration among initiatives across the technology, research, and academic portfolios of all colleges
Responsible for leadership and management of technology teams staying current with technological knowledge and application development
Act as a trusted liaison between enterprise information technology and Georgia Tech researchers and faculty
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, in related field or combination of education and experience
10 or more years of job-related experience
Demonstrated knowledge of research cyber infrastructure expertise and familiarity with cyber missions
Demonstrated experience managing large, complex, research projects that were focused on information technology, software technology, assurance, cyber and/or software engineering
Excellent leadership capability, communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills
Program/project management and business analysis skills
Strong commitment to team leadership and organizational development
Extensive knowledge of system life cycle management
Strong budget planning, financial management and resource management skills
Expert knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions and strategic application to business needs
Advanced knowledge of business operations and processes
Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to effectively deploy resources and manage multiple projects of diverse scopes in a cross-functional environment
Ability to improve operational efficiency and service delivery effectiveness across all lines of digital business and technology platforms
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others
Preferred
PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or in a related field
15 years or more of job-related experience and R-1 academic experience
Provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for High-performance computing (HPC)/AI Infrastructure, & Learning Management platforms ensuring alignment with the university's academic mission, research priorities, and instructional innovation goals
Serve as a liaison between academic faculty, research administration, instructional technology, and enterprise IT, creating a cohesive, scalable environment that supports classroom innovation, experiential learning, and advanced research needs
Cultivate and sustain strategic partnerships across campus, within the University System of Georgia (USG), with peer institutions, government agencies, industry partners, and national research computing consortia to advance shared goals in AI, HPC, and digital research infrastructure
Technically knowledgeable of research cyberinfrastructure (RCI), including HPC systems, AI/ML platforms, cloud and hybrid research environments, and data-intensive computing
Demonstrated ability to improve organizational efficiency, service delivery, and stakeholder experience across instructional, research, and enterprise technology platforms
Strong knowledge of higher education governance, funding models, and shared governance structures, including faculty-led research, sponsored programs, and national research collaborations
