Responsibilities
Design, implement, and manage database structures in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)
Ensure database performance, security, and availability
Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures
Monitor system performance and troubleshoot bottlenecks
Implement and enforce database security protocols to protect sensitive healthcare data
Collaborate with IT, development, and compliance teams to support business objectives
Maintain documentation for database architectures, processes, and compliance activities
Stay current with advancements in cloud database technologies and healthcare data regulations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
4+ years of experience in database administration, with a focus on cloud environments
Proficiency with AWS required
Experience managing large fleets of AWS RDS and Aurora databases in active production systems
Experience with SQL query language required
Strong understanding of database security practices and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, HITECH, PCI DSS)
Experience with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning
Scripting skills (e.g. Python, Terraform) for automation and DevOps support
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database – Specialty)
Experience in healthcare technology or with electronic health record (EHR) systems
Familiarity with healthcare data standards and interoperability requirements
Preferred
Experience with other cloud platforms preferred (Azure, GCP)
NoSQL experience would be nice
