Lead, Aircraft Stress Engineer

They are seeking an experienced Aircraft Stress Engineer to perform structural analyses on aircraft structures, lead a team of analysts, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

Predict internal stresses and structural instabilities in aircraft structure
Generate free-body diagrams of structural load paths
Determine reaction forces, calculate internal loads, and develop shear and moment diagrams
Document and report analysis results
Coordinate with Mechanical Design team to help develop structural load path concepts, and to size structural dimensions and features
Review and approve structural engineering drawings as part of the release process
Mentor less experienced stress analysts
Automate repetitive analytical tasks
Work in an collaborative team environment, as a member of the larger Flight Sciences Group, and across all disciplines within an integrated project team
Thorough understanding of industry-standard classical hand analysis methods
Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
Ability to work any shift, weekends, and overtime as required to meet business objectives
Ability to travel as necessary

Required

Bachelor's Degree (BSME, BSAE, BSCE) and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree (MSME, MSAE) and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience
Minimum 5 years experience in Finite-Element Modeling (FEM)
Must be a US citizen
Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
Ability to work any shift, weekends, and overtime as required to meet business objectives
Ability to travel as necessary

Preferred

Experience with MSC PATRAN/NASTRAN, or FEMAP is preferred
Experience analyzing composite structures
Experience in Matlab or Mathcad
Experience with FAA and/or Military Airworthiness requirements
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and have general computer knowledge
Good verbal and written communication skills
