Payroll Specialist

The Intersect Group is seeking a Payroll Specialist to perform complex and specialized accounting work related to payroll preparation and processing. Responsibilities

Performs maintenance of payroll records, forms, files, and documents necessary for proper calculation and documentation for employees. Communicates timely overpayment and underpayment notifications to employee
Prepares payrolls, which include computing and adjusting pay, auditing time sheets, preparing payroll transaction code documents, and posting, balancing, and registering employees' deductions both voluntary and mandated by law or Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
Prepares internal and external payroll data including timekeeping data from automated timekeeping system for transfer to payroll system
Prepares or causes to be prepared numerous payroll related reports pertaining to wages, employees' organizations, unemployment claims, verifications of employment, salary reports, and mandated payroll deductions
Reviews standard reports from automated systems inspecting and confirming earnings and deduction totals, and corrects discrepancies
Audits time entered and department approvals in automated timekeeping system including generating reports, following-up with department timekeepers, and transferring data to payroll system
Completes automated timekeeping system maintenance ensuring proper employee set-up, security, assigned schedules, and master tables updates, as necessary; and provides technical assistance and training to end users
Maintains accurate files and records on all payroll matters including insurance, credit union dues, and other deductions. Notifies employees when payroll deductions are greater than wages to be paid
Prepares information reports required by governmental agencies
Prepares and updates documentation of payroll and timekeeping processes and procedures
Conducts detailed research of past payroll, timesheets, and accrual records in response to inquires from county and state agencies, court subpoenas, employees or other organizational entities
Receives and processes court, Franchise Tax Board, and IRS orders to withhold earnings from employee's payroll warrants

Required

Associate of Arts degree in accounting with course work in business administration
Analyze, interpret and explain laws, rules, regulations, MOUs and employment contracts
Analyze and interpret payroll related financial data
Create, prepare and maintain accurate records and reports
Modern business office practices and procedures, including filing systems and payroll applications
Skill and Ability to: Interpret and apply complex policies and pertinent laws, rules and regulations related to payroll, leaves, claims, and other deductions
Make mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy
Work effectively with people, resolve conflicts and maintain confidentiality
Operate office equipment such as adding and calculating machines, and personal computer and related software
Accurately compile and prepare complete reports and compose letters
Understand and carry out complex instructions
