The role involves leading engineering staff, developing structural designs and specifications, and collaborating with various engineering disciplines on transportation projects.

Responsibilities

Lead engineering staff on various task assignments

Responsible for the development of structural design details, drawings and specifications, including calculations for new designs, rehabilitation and renovation work

Developing drawings in REVIT (BIM), AutoCAD, MicroStation and Open Building

Strong capabilities and understanding in using structural software such as STAADPro, RAM Structural System, SAP2000, ETABS and SAFE (or equivalent)

Utilizing Microsoft Excel and Mathcad Prime to develop structural calculations

Leading field inspection teams for evaluation of structural systems of existing buildings

Coordination with various engineering disciplines as well as with architects in the development of design contract documents

Work within a paperless (or limited-use) office environment and remote working when required

Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Required

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering, or equivalent

5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural design experience in transportation projects

PE Licensed (NY/NJ) or capable of obtaining a New York State PE license within 1 year

Knowledgeable in state and city building codes, as well as industry standard specifications (IBC, ACI 318, AISC 360, etc.)

Prior experience working with construction documents

Knowledgeable in STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM Structural System, Mathcad, Excel or similar structural design software

Proficiency of AutoCAD and REVIT; knowledgeable in MicroStation and Open Building is a plus

Interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience

Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results oriented, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment

Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies

Excellent communication and writing skills and well organized

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek

Preferred

Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering

Experience working with transportation clients (i.e., Amtrak, NYCT MTA, NJ Transit)

Detailed experience related in transportation facility design and rehabilitation

Knowledge in the development of CSI-format construction specifications
