Credit Risk Director
Broadgate is partnering with a Fintech Lending start-up to find a Credit Risk Manager/Director. The role involves designing and executing credit strategies, optimizing credit policies, and performing advanced analytics to support decision-making in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Design and execute a credit strategy capable of withstanding significant stress scenarios without materially degrading gross margin
Proactively identify emerging loss trends and implement short-term policy or rule adjustments to mitigate risk
Ensure credit losses remain within expected performance ranges at acquisition and through early lifecycle stages
Own and iterate approve/decline logic, credit line assignment, pricing, and loan term policies
Use data-driven experimentation to improve unit economics and portfolio outcomes
Continuously test hypotheses through controlled experiments and translate learnings into production policies
Identify and launch experiments that improve gross profit through credit policy changes
Deliver measurable, incremental profit impact through disciplined testing and iteration
Build a track record of cumulative gross profit generation attributable to policy and strategy enhancements
Perform advanced, end-to-end analysis independently, from data extraction to insight generation
Ensure analytical outputs are technically accurate and suitable for executive-level decision-making
Translate complex analyses into clear, actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders
Effectively challenge and defend credit decisions through data and logic
Communicate risk trade-offs clearly and confidently to cross-functional and senior audiences
Balance openness to feedback with the ability to persuade others to adopt necessary but potentially unpopular risk actions
Qualification
Required
Meaningful experience in consumer credit risk, with exposure to: Non-prime or near-prime lending and/or Emerging market or LATAM consumer lending environments
Depth of experience sufficient to operate independently at a senior IC level (typically ~6–12 years overall)
Advanced SQL and strong analytical self-sufficiency; work does not require routine validation by others
Strong understanding of credit performance, loss drivers, cohort analysis, and profitability trade-offs
Experience designing, running, and interpreting controlled experiments in a lending environment
Highly autonomous, with strong judgment and a bias toward action once context is understood
Naturally risk-aware and detail-oriented, with a healthy skepticism toward surface-level explanations
Comfortable operating in fast-growing, resource-constrained environments where impact is driven by personal effectiveness
Clear, structured communicator capable of managing expectations and influencing senior stakeholders
Comfortable with constructive challenge and debate, both receiving and delivering feedback
Able to present complex risk topics with clarity and confidence
