They are seeking a Senior Staff Attorney to litigate cases in Maryland and the District of Columbia, focusing on Premises Liability, Products Liability, and Commercial and Personal Automobile accidents.

Responsibilities

Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and well-reasoned legal research

Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients

Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies independently, with no or minimal supervision based on level of experience and expertise

Partner with our Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our Hartford insureds

Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claim partners on legal and factual issues

Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion

Provide for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases

Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, hearings, arbitrations, and/or alternative dispute resolutions

Research, draft, file and argue substantive motions on behalf of clients

Provide legal opinions to Managing Attorney, staff, clients, and claims customers

Required

Minimum of 7 years of legal practice experience handling tort defense cases in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia

JD from accredited law school and licensed to practice in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia and ability to practice in federal courts

Demonstrated expertise and familiarity in the handling of claim cases and litigation

Strong legal research and writing skills

Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are a must

Strong communication, computer and technological skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required; including use of AI
