Quality Engineer Intern

SoLa Impact is a real estate private equity firm focused on affordable housing in Black and brown communities. The Quality Engineer Intern will assist in inspections, documentation of non-conformances, data collection, and support quality initiatives to enhance production efficiency.

Responsibilities

Assist in performing in-process and final inspections on manufactured components and units
Support the review and completion of quality travelers, checklists, and inspection records
Help document non-conformances, rework, and corrective actions under the guidance of the Quality Manager
Assist with data collection and basic analysis related to defects, trends, and quality metrics
Participate in root cause analysis activities (5 Whys, Fishbone) as assigned
Support internal audits, third-party inspections, and regulatory visits as needed
Developing detailed work instructions and managing manufacturing routing workflows in the MES system
Assist in maintaining organization and traceability of quality records
Analyzing production processes to identify and eliminate wastefulness and increase efficiency
Implementing initiatives to support our ultimate goal of reducing the cost of housing in Southern California

Qualification

Mechanical engineering fundamentals3D mechanical design toolsMachine shop fabricationMechanical design experienceCommunication skills

Required

Pursuing B.S. in mechanical engineering or similar discipline
Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals
Basic machine shop build/fabrication experience
1+ year of experience in mechanical design or build (internship and project experience counts)
Experienced using 3D mechanical design, analysis, and drafting tools (Autodesk Inventor, NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, ANSYS, etc.)
Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Passion for reducing homelessness in Southern California

Preferred

Pursuing advanced degree in mechanical engineering
Advanced fabrication experience (CNC machining, welding, precision assembly)
