Electrical Distribution Utility Engineer
Charge EPC is a rapidly growing company known for its design, procurement, and construction services in the underground utility industry. They are seeking an experienced Electrical Distribution Utility Engineer to manage multiple utility infrastructure design projects, ensuring timely and budget-compliant completion while collaborating with internal teams and external customers.
Construction
Responsibilities
Design electrical power distribution systems in overhead and underground facilities
Manage projects with strict customer requirements (schedule, quality, standards)
Daily use of industry standard design tools (ACAD, GIS, Ocalc, EES) daily
Perform calculations such as voltage drop/flicker, cable pulling tension calculation and pole loading
Manage many concurrent projects that vary in complexity and priority
Perform site walks with customers and key stakeholders
Ensure project design decisions are made within the broader context of safety adherence, financial stewardship, and customer requirements
Provide support for construction crews on technical requirements
Provide client management, communication, and support
Establish project goals through effective communication with customer and stakeholders
Qualification
Required
Strong communication skills with customers
A bias to action; attacks problems head on with enthusiasm, seeing the opportunity behind every challenge
Able to communicate effectively at all levels and in all formats
Ability to think creatively and be solution focused
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Proven organizational tools and methods for ensuring all commitments are met
Experience working with large Electric Utility Companies
Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Driver license and clean driving record
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Project Management, Business or similar
2+ years' experience as an Estimating Engineer, or equivalent, in the electric utility industry
Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
Underground and Overhead utility experience – design methods and standards
Familiar with Northern California electric utility standards
Familiar with Northern California Joint Pole Association (NCJPA) rules
Experience designing projects according to CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission) rules and orders
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) – highly preferred
