Protection Engineer- Electric Utility
Grid Careers is seeking an experienced Protection & Controls Engineer to support engineering and design work for electric utilities and power generation facilities across the U.S. This hands-on engineering role focuses on the design and implementation of protection and control systems for generation assets and industrial power systems.
Responsibilities
Design protection and control systems for power generation facilities (thermal, renewable, and hybrid systems)
Develop P&C designs for generators, switchgear, transformers, and auxiliary systems
Create and review one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
Develop relay settings, logic, and protection philosophies
Support equipment specifications, calculations, and coordination studies
Interface with utilities, plant owners, EPCs, and internal project teams
Support commissioning and field troubleshooting as needed (limited travel)
Qualification
Required
Strong experience in Protection & Controls design, especially for generation
Comfortable producing detailed engineering deliverables independently
Experience supporting utilities, generation owners, or EPCs
Working knowledge of protection standards, utility practices, and industry codes
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (PE a plus, not required)
Someone who prefers hands-on engineering over people management
