Structural Materials Engineer III, IV, or V- MTD Division
The Texas Department of Transportation is looking for a Transportation Engineer III, IV, or V in their Materials and Tests Division. This role involves advanced engineering work in the construction of prestressed concrete and structural steel components, ensuring compliance with regulations while providing technical support and oversight for quality assurance in construction projects across Texas.

Responsibilities
Assists district and division personnel on material and/or fabrication requirements and advises of appropriate material and/or fabrication application and acceptability
Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support
Investigates materials failures or fabrication problems; reviews test data and assists in determining cause of failing materials
Monitors contractor's compliance with plans and specifications
Represents the district/division at various meetings
Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors
Writes reports, specifications and test procedures
Assists in developing and/or monitoring budgets
Develops, recommends, and implements modifications as necessary for continual improvement to existing program of responsibility
Develops training courses and/or materials
Reviews shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures
Trains engineering staff
Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets
Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development
Reviews and supports Standard Operating Procedures for maintaining and archiving project schedules; managing resources; managing budgets; managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals
Formulates, develops and/or monitors budgets and financial information
Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance
Performs, reviews and monitors detailed investigations, data collection, analyses and coordination of bridge-related research and recommends cost effective project level design for new, rehabilitated and reconstructed bridges
Develops and supports implementation activities for new methods, procedures, and technologies
Provides technical information and guidance regarding innovative and experimental technologies to departmental personnel
Reviews and provides guidance on research project reports and other deliverables
Supports the Technical Assistance Panel for assigned Research Management Committee
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
8 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Licensed Prof Engineer
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
