Biology Instructor

The State of South Carolina is seeking a Biology Instructor for the Technical College of the Lowcountry, dedicated to providing quality instruction and managing students in biology and health science courses. The role involves instructional development, teaching performance, student advisement, and professional development to enhance the educational experience of students.

Responsibilities

Work with members of the Arts and Sciences/College Transfer Programs Advisory Committee to participate in divisional planning for programs
Assist in the development of developmental and college skills curricula for students in all college programs
Evaluate courses and students’ attainment of basic skills
Assist in the refinement of curricula for developmental and college preparatory courses
Teach courses as assigned and in accordance with the established syllabi
Provide quality instruction for students on a regular basis, using a variety of instructional modalities at the different campus sites
Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis
Participate in the Faculty Performance Management System
Achieve at least a 3.5 on student evaluations and satisfactory peer/supervisor evaluations
Work with the Student Services Division in the selection, recruitment, admission, and retention of students and to utilize counseling services
Advise and maintain records of assigned student advisees in accordance with divisional policy and procedures
Provide effective academic advisement for students enrolled in full developmental skills work
Cooperate with the Student Services Division in the placement and follow-up of students
Maintain office hours as required to meet needs of students, faculty, and advisees
Represent the Division and College by participating in community and professional meetings
Attend relevant professional meetings
Maintain a current awareness of educational innovations and trends appropriate to provision of high-quality instruction in developmental and college preparatory skills
Actively initiate and perform effective student recruitment activities in high schools and in the community
Implement marketing activities for Associate of Science and the Associate of Arts Programs
Utilize the services of staff specialists and coordinators
Maintain contacts with appropriate professional and community organizations/individuals in the College service area
Serve actively on College committees
Work cooperatively with other divisional faculty members and College divisions to meet the educational needs of students
Foster and promote the Associate of Science and health science programs
Maintain proper control and effective use of all physical facilities and supplies in the assigned division including the science laboratories
Prepare reports in cooperation with division dean for input into the planning/reporting system
Administer student regulations within the division
Insure communication of policies, procedures, and campus information to all students
Recommend advisory committee members and agenda items and serve as a committee catalyst
Prepare semester schedules for program coordination with other program instructors and Divisions Deans
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Division Dean for Arts & Sciences

Required

Master's degree with a major in Biology or master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Biology

Preferred

Two (2) years teaching experience is preferred
