Outdoor Recreation Intern
NEOGOV is a company within the County of Mono, seeking an Outdoor Recreation Intern to provide support in Recreation Management and related sectors. Responsibilities
Participate in division trainings, discussions and meetings pertaining to managing recreation within Mono County, including taking minutes
Data collection and processing:
Participate in the development of surveys for data collection
Use of technology such as cell phone or iPad to collect gps, photo and attribute data on various platforms such as Survey123, Google Forms, Sharepoint Forms, excel, etc
Process data into functional and useful formats for program planning, ex. synthesizing survey results into reports
Field work:
Participate in trail and route condition assessments, and in the projects that repair or maintain these systems (ex. Drainage work, brushing, sign installation and repair, etc.)
Perform restoration in areas misused by recreationists (includes raking, mulching, installation of barriers, etc.)
Post at high-volume recreation areas (ex. Visitor centers, trailheads) and engage with visitors to provide education and soft enforcement or to collect data
Occasionally work with trail counter devices and data (we provide training!)
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
The desired candidate is a student enrolled in a program related to Outdoor Recreation or Environmental sectors
Candidates for this position will ideally be enrolled in a school program for outdoor recreation management, environmental studies, or related disciplines
Demonstrated knowledge about various aspects of outdoor recreation management, including trail maintenance, environmental restoration, mapping, visitor services, and land use management
Flexible, willing to travel county-wide, and able to work independently
Physically capable of potential job duties

Work with the Superintendent and /or Coordinator to carry out daily operations and to be self-motivated on assigned tasks and projects
Personably engage with members of the public to attract respondents for data collection; ability to provide information for visitor services
Research, gather, organize and evaluate statistics, data and information; organize filing & archiving of documents
Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Ability to hike trails while carrying tools and perform outdoor labor to maintain and / or clean trails and routes
Ability to drive 4wd capable vehicles and navigate on dirt road systems
Work in the outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and environments
Ability to show up for work each day prepared to be self-sufficient and responsible for the days tasks
A High school diploma or most higher education degrees
Experience working in a position that involved data collection or visitor services
Preferred
Experience in managing inter-agency agreements, GIS/cartography, graphic design, grant administration, and project management
