Internship, Cell Materials Engineer, Cell Engineering (Summer 2026)
Tesla is a leading company in the energy storage sector, and they are seeking an intern for the Cell Materials Engineer position. The intern will support various engineering teams in processing and materials science, focusing on battery materials and performance optimization.

Responsibilities
The intern on this team will document observations and present findings to technical audience on routine basis
They will support the boulder R&D team through fabrication of small scale electrode coatings
This intern will be responsible for supporting the development cell test plans to characterize initial cell performance, lifetime behavior, reliability, and identify critical failures and degradation modes
In addition, this candidate will help plan test resources, track test progress and analyze/report testing results
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, preferably in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
Experience with electrochemical and mechanical evaluation of battery electrode analysis techniques (Arbin, Maccor, Biologic, or similar)
Familiarity with degradation mechanisms of batteries and battery materials
Experience using MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or similar data analysis tool
Knowledge of lithium-ion battery technology and electrochemistry
First-principal physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and transformation, and thermo-fluids engineering
