State Conservationist

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is seeking a State Conservationist responsible for overseeing state-wide soil, water, and natural resource conservation stewardship. The role includes establishing state-specific policy, standards, practices, and procedures to address and resolve natural resource concerns.

Responsibilities

Defines clear performance goals and objectives aligned with agency direction and program mission
Supervises the work of area and field office staff, including up to 100 administrative, technical and supervisory staff
Ensures conservationists and engineers utilize current science-based tools and incorporate innovative technology into conservation practice standards and business tools
Service programs with other Federal agencies, State and local government officials, public and private agencies, and other groups and individuals

Required

You must be a US Citizen or US National
Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check
Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served
Direct Deposit: Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution
Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Subject to one year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable
Must possess/maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license for the type of vehicle(s) used to perform the duties of this position
This position requires the incumbent to obtain a Conservation Planning Certification in accordance with the guidelines in General Manual 180 Part 409.3
This position requires the incumbent to submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report Form OGE-450 within 30 days of your initial appointment date, and annually thereafter
Must be fluent in speaking, writing, and reading English and Spanish
Time in grade: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level
Basic Education Requirement: 0401 Series - Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position
Basic Education Requirement: 0801 Series - Degree: Engineering
Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-14 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level or higher in Federal service
Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-15 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level or higher in Federal service
