Cyber Security Scientist

Riverside Research is an independent National Security Nonprofit dedicated to research and development in the national interest. The Cyber Security Scientist will support the low-level cybersecurity team, contributing to projects related to independent research and development as well as customer-funded contracts, focusing on cyber and systems security.

Responsibilities

Support research and development tasks related to:
Program/binary analysis and automated testing
Software/hardware fuzzing, instrumentation and harnesses development
Assist with systems-level engineering tasks including:
Board bring-up and hardware interfacing
Toolchain configuration and maintenance
Build system development (CMake, Make, etc.)
Low-level C/C++ software development for tooling, harnessing, and system integration
Contribute to prototype evaluation, data collection, and experiment execution
Document findings, develop reproducible workflows, and support deliverables
Collaborate with senior researchers and engineers on exploratory R&D tasks

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field
Strong experience with C/C++ programming
Familiarity with Linux development environments, toolchains, and debuggers
Exposure to at least one of the following: Fuzzing (AFL, Vader Modular Fuzzer, libFuzzer, Honggfuzz, etc.), Program analysis or binary analysis (e.g. Ghidra, binwalk, angr etc.), Embedded systems or hardware bring up
Ability to learn quickly and work independently in a research-oriented environment
Python/bash scripting for tooling, automation, and data processing
Curiosity and willingness to explore unfamiliar technical areas
Strong debugging, reverse-engineering, or systems-level problem-solving skills
Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively
