Lead Engineering Technician (Vehicles)

This position is located in the Office of Smithsonian Facilities, where the Lead Engineering Technician (Vehicles) is responsible for installing, repairing, and troubleshooting integrated mechanical and electrical systems related to vehicles.

Responsibilities

Install, repair, overhaul, rebuild, modify, test, program, and troubleshoot major integrated mechanical and electrical systems such as Fleet wave Automotive System, Diagnostic Equipment, AC/Air conditioning, EV Electric Motor Repair, etc
Assist Agency Fleet Manager and Mobile Asset Supervisor with activities related to conducting regularly scheduled inventories, disposal of surplus, resolving discrepancies, maintaining automated tracking systems and interacting with accountable property professionals
Advise the supervisor of shop stock needs, services parts, and supplies
Perform analysis to ensure cost effective utilization when dealing with vendors
Analyze, evaluate, and report on complex mechanical and electrical systems operations

Required

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-XX level in the Federal Service
Specialized experience is defined as installing, inspecting, repairing, and diagnostic testing to Mobile Asset Repair Equipment such as gasoline/diesel assets and EV-Electrical Vehicles
Must have a valid State or District of Columbia driver's license
Must be available to work late shifts, weekends and holidays and is subject to being called in for emergencies to restore the Smithsonian Institution to normal operations
Work requires travel away from the normal duty station on a regular basis
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
