Central Office_Supervisor, Dispatch (Operations) 2024-2025
DeKalb County School District is seeking an experienced Supervisor, Dispatch to manage and supervise the operations of a Dispatch Center. The role involves ensuring timely and safe transportation services while providing leadership to dispatch staff and addressing transportation-related issues.

Responsibilities
Manages a functional dispatch team within the Transportation Department
Organizes programs and processes, establishes tasks for staff, and sets operational priorities
Works on issues requiring analysis of data and multiple relevant factors to determine appropriate solutions
Identifies and resolves operational issues that may fall outside established guidelines; recommends process improvements based on sound workflow and operational principles
Responds in a timely manner to complaints and concerns related to transportation issues from students, parents, bus drivers, school personnel, and the general public
Coordinates and monitors two-way radio communication between bus drivers, district managers, and transportation administrators; ensures compliance with communication standards and applicable laws and reports violations as required
Analyzes emergency and priority situations, including accidents and mechanical issues, and coordinates appropriate personnel and response actions
Trains dispatch staff on radio etiquette, proper use of communication equipment, oral and written communication skills, and appropriate use of email
Develops and implements customer service strategies to enhance the experience of individuals utilizing transportation services
Attends meetings and participates in or presents at staff development seminars related to transportation management or safety protocols
Organizes and coordinates updates for driver logbooks in collaboration with transportation administration, including revisions to the school bus driver’s manual
Interacts with subordinates, supervisors, and functional peer groups to interpret, explain, and share information as necessary
Performs additional duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Associate degree or equivalent completed college coursework in Dispatch, Communications Center Operations, or a closely related field from a Professional Standards Commission-approved accredited college or university required
Minimum of three (3) years of transportation dispatch or closely related experience required
Valid certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid required
Thorough knowledge of basic motor vehicles and school bus operations
Knowledge of school bus safety policies and procedures
Knowledge of local and state traffic ordinances
Knowledge of leadership principles and change management strategies
Ability to carry out or coordinate vehicle maintenance activities
Ability to lead a team and provide guidance within established policies and procedures
Ability to make sound decisions that impact team performance and operational outcomes
Ability to develop and implement new processes and procedures as appropriate
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
Ability to think critically, strategically, and solve problems efficiently
Strong computer skills with the ability to use relevant software applications
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy
Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain documentation and reports
Preferred
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus (P&S) endorsement preferred
