Mechanical Engineering Intern

Carpenter Technology Corporation is seeking a Summer 2026 Mechanical Engineering Intern to support their Global Advanced Engineering department. The intern will assist engineers with various projects, applying mechanical engineering principles to design, analyze, and support machinery and equipment.

Responsibilities

Assist engineer to specify, purchase, and install new equipment
Reverse engineering existing equipment and parts into 3D models
Designing modifications to existing equipment
Work closely with engineers as well as manufacturing plant personnel to perform miscellaneous fieldwork, create and update CAD drawings, design and specify new equipment and modifications to existing equipment, and assist with construction of equipment
Address Environmental Health and Safety issues and processes
Learn to estimate project costs
Learn how to, and prepare information for the installation and/or modification of process equipment
Assist in start-up new and modified process equipment
Produce operator and maintenance manuals and final drawings
Learn practical mechanical engineering for plant systems such as HVAC, chemical, storage and material handling, co

Required

Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 3.0 GPA
Willing and able to work on-site at our location
Applicants MUST be US Citizens or Green Card Holders due to Carpenter's government contracts
Candidates should have proficiency in Microsoft Office as well as working knowledge of CAD systems (Solidworks, AutoCAD)
Willingness to work in a heavy machinery environment
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to prioritize tasks
Excellent problem solving skills
Effective communicator
Self-motivated
