Deputy Director of Brooklyn Planning for the Division of Planning & Predevelopment
The City of New York's Department of Housing Preservation Development promotes quality and affordability in housing. The Deputy Director for Brooklyn Planning will lead a team to manage the housing production pipeline and coordinate community engagement efforts for project approvals.

Responsibilities
Independently manage a select portfolio of high-priority or complex projects
Analyze development trends, neighborhood and market dynamics; land use and zoning analysis
Work with Senior Planners and Planners to troubleshoot and navigate complex planning issues as they arise in projects and review their work for quality assurance
Advise the Director on policy issues and potential solutions
Assist the Director with creating, implementing, and maintaining, clear operational procedures
Represent the agency and Borough Planning team at public meetings and forums
Partner with Predevelopment Planners in the request for proposals review and selection process
Work collaboratively with the Division of Neighborhood Development and Stabilization on neighborhood planning efforts
Work collaboratively with HPD Office of Development staff (including finance, environmental review, and architect colleagues) on preparing projects for financial closings; and
Coordinate with other NYC agencies, such as the Economic Development Corporation, Department of City Planning, and for- and non- profit housing and community developers, Community Boards and local organizations, public officials, and neighborhood residents through the predevelopment process
Qualification
Required
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' or '2' above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in '1' above
Master's degree in urban planning, urban studies, public policy, political science, real estate, or law strongly preferred
A minimum of four years of professional experience in a related field
Thorough knowledge of New York City government, housing issues, land use and environmental review
Experience with community engagement, organizing and facilitating public meetings
Experience creating and designing materials for internal and public consumption, including presentations, maps, and reports
Excellent research, analytical, writing, and public speaking skills
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a timely manner
Strong operational skills, including project tracking and reporting, and ability to suggest and work towards process improvements
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and work effectively with others
Demonstrated experience managing and/or mentoring staff
