OPIR Scientist (Senior)

Responsibilities
Provide senior-level subject matter expertise to guide the architecture, design, and implementation of OPIR-focused software systems and analytical applications
Evaluate system design documents, user interface prototypes, and software artifacts to ensure technical soundness and operational suitability for OPIR missions
Participate in sprint reviews, technical interchange meetings (TIMs), and formal design reviews with a focus on OPIR system integration, data processing, and analytic performance
Support government stakeholders by reviewing and validating contractor performance against OPIR-specific technical, analytical, and operational objectives
Ensure that new and evolving software capabilities align with OPIR mission requirements, operational workflows, and emerging needs of the OPIR analysis and research communities
This position is designed to be flexible, with responsibilities evolving to meet business needs and enable individual growth
Qualification
Required
Active TS-SCI clearance with ability to obtain and maintain a CI poly
Proven ability to develop comprehensive Concepts of Operations (CONOPS) documents, translating complex mission requirements into clear operational descriptions for diverse stakeholder audiences (e.g., users, developers, managers)
Background in the operation and application of space-based sensors, with an understanding of the underlying phenomenology of different sensing modalities (e.g., optical, radar, IR)
Solid understanding of machine learning principles, data analysis, statistical methods, and optimization algorithms
Clear and effective communication with technical teams, stakeholders, and end-users is necessary to coordinate projects and explain complex information
The capacity to manage multiple projects, balance timelines, and maintain structured workflows
Experience with space-based sensor operations and phenomenology
Skill in evaluating existing systems, analyzing user needs and product requirements, and integrating new remote sensing technologies or methods into existing system architectures
Candidates should possess experience in leveraging data from various space-based phenomenology to support mission objectives, such as missile defense or space domain awareness
Strong knowledge of event-driven architecture (EDA) and enterprise integration patterns, including publish/subscribe and request/reply
Experience working with research or operational communities, including mission partners, program offices, or analytic organizations
Familiarity with agile development processes and software evaluation practices
Experience with multi-INT integration or space-domain awareness systems
Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, or related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience with OPIR data systems, processing pipelines, and exploitation workflows
10–15 years of experience in software/system engineering with direct involvement in DoD or IC mission systems
MA/MS degree with 13+ years of relevant experience, OR BA/BS degree with 15+ years of relevant experience in a discipline aligned with the position's responsibilities
Preferred
Master's degree in software engineering, computer science, or related field
PhD in a related field
