Content Writer
The NYC Campaign Finance Board (CFB) manages New York City’s small donor democracy program and is seeking a Content Writer to develop and elevate the voice of NYC Votes across digital platforms. This role involves creating clear, accessible content that engages diverse communities and empowers New Yorkers with information about civic participation and elections.

Responsibilities
Write, edit, and produce content for NYC Votes campaigns across web, email, social media, advertising, and print
Ensure all content reflects NYC Votes’ voice, style, and accessibility standards, including plain language and language access considerations
Brainstorm content plans for key initiatives such as matching funds education, debates, and election-specific content
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging across platforms
Adapt content for multiple audiences, with a focus on engaging young voters, multilingual communities, and historically underrepresented groups
Incorporate Seach Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices and use analytics to measure digital content performance and refine strategies
Provide editorial feedback for written assets
Manage deadlines and workflows for multiple projects in fast-paced election cycles
Uphold the CFB’s mission and nonpartisan principles in all communications
Qualification
Required
Understand principles of plain language and accessibility in public communications
Apply AP Style and other editorial standards consistently
Recognize nuances in civic, governmental, and election-related communications
Interpret analytics to guide content strategy
Stay informed on trends in digital communications, social media, and voter engagement
Identify cultural and linguistic considerations for diverse NYC audiences
Write clear, concise, and engaging copy across platforms
Edit content for clarity, tone, and accuracy
Adapt messaging for different channels, audiences, and formats
Conduct research to ensure accuracy and completeness
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
Use content management systems and publishing tools efficiently
Manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
Strong proofreading skills
Convey complex civic information in accessible language
Maintain a consistent brand voice across channels
Prioritize tasks and balance competing deadlines
Solve content challenges creatively and strategically
Respond to evolving priorities with flexibility
Offer and provide constructive editorial feedback
Uphold the integrity and nonpartisan mission of the agency
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by at least twelve-semester credits in accounting, auditing, business or public administration, computer science, economics, finance, statistics, graphic design, personnel or human resources administration, user experience design, or a closely related area of study
One year of satisfactory full-time experience in accounting, auditing (including compliance or investigative auditing), business or public administration, business analysis, computer science, database administration, economics, finance, fiscal or economic management or research, statistics, graphic design, personnel or human resources administration, user experience design, or a closely related field
Preferred
1–3 years of experience in writing, editing, or written content management in a similar role
Familiarity with New York City government or civic engagement is a plus
Experience using Salesforce Marketing Cloud or equivalent CMS
