MGU Lead Engineer
GM Performance Power Units is seeking an experienced MGU Lead Engineer to join their innovative team in Concord, NC. In this mission-critical role, you will push the boundaries of hybrid powertrain optimization to ensure peak performance in Formula 1 racing, developing race-winning strategies that optimize energy recovery and deployment.

Responsibilities
Design & Optimization: Design and optimize MGU components, focusing on efficiency and performance within FIA regulations
Strategy Development: Develop and refine control strategies for energy recovery and deployment
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with powertrain and vehicle dynamics teams to integrate MGUs with other vehicle systems
Performance Analytics: Analyze MGU performance data and implement improvements
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with FIA regulations regarding energy recovery and deployment
Track-Side Support: Participate in track testing and race weekend operations to support MGU performance
Performance Strategy: Work closely with drivers and race engineers to optimize MGU strategies for different circuits and race conditions
Qualification
Required
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in motorsport, preferably in Formula 1, Formula-E, or other hybrid or EV-based high-performance racing series
Strong understanding of electric motor design, power electronics, and control systems
Proven track record of leading engineering teams in a high-pressure, results-driven environment
Strong capability in data analysis, simulation, and performance modeling of complex electromechanical systems
Thorough understanding of FIA technical regulations pertaining to power units and energy recovery systems
Advanced knowledge of MGU systems and their integration with F1 hybrid power units
Expertise in high-speed electric motor design and optimization
Proficiency in thermal management of high-performance electrical systems
Experience with energy recovery strategies and power deployment optimization
Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) tools
Innovative problem-solver with a passion for motorsport technology
Excellent communicator capable of working effectively in a fast-paced team environment
Detail-oriented with a strong focus on system optimization and efficiency
Adaptable and able to thrive under the pressure of race weekends and tight development schedules
