Responsibilities
Responsible for coordinating, monitoring, developing and elating the activities of the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist staff the ambulatory scenarios such as (but not limited) Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT), Home Base Primary Care (HBPC) and Anticoagulation
Responsible for all activities and functions generated by the employees under his/her supervision on a day to day basis. These activities require a great degree of skill in patient monitoring, drug therapy review and assessing patient outcomes
Keeps the Associate Chief and Chief Pharmacy apprised of trends/situations affecting any aspects of the pharmacy activities
Clinical Pharmacy Specialists Supervisor must know and understand all areas of pharmacy, as he/she will serve as an expert coordinating and distributing pharmacy activities during "on call" situations, weekends, holidays and in emergency situations
Primary responsibility is coordination and provision of clinical pharmacy services to patients and staff in primary care through PACT CPS's, Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) CPS's and Anticoagulation CPS's within the VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS)
Performs advanced clinical services in a major specialty area requiring in-depth knowledge and advanced monitoring skills and assessing patient outcome
Responsible for conducting direct patient-care activities that are performed with the efficiency and depth of an experienced clinical pharmacy specialist (CPS) in ambulatory care. This includes designing, recommending, monitoring, and evaluating patient-specific pharmacotherapy for ambulatory care patients
Coordinates and/or performs medication reconciliation for ambulatory care patients with scheduled face-to-face or tele health appointments
Follows national pharmaco-therapeutic guidelines and is familiar and up to date with current clinical practice guidelines
Assures drug use is consistent with national, VISN, and local policy (e.g. formulary vs. non formulary, criteria-for-use)
Serves as an advisor for matters pertaining to direct patient-care activities, pharmacotherapy and the enhancement of progressive pharmacy services
Assists the Associate Chief, Pharmacy Services in recommending and prioritizing performance improvement projects and provides accurate and timely data concerning Section activities
Coordinates, monitors, develop, and evaluate the activities of the Clinical Pharmacy Specialists. This includes establishing programmatic goals of the clinical section and assigning responsibility to the clinical staff for achievement of those goals
Actively participates of the recruitment of new employees by interviewing prospective advancements, or promotions as warranted
Supervises and evaluates the PACT CPS, and HBPC and anticoagulation clinical pharmacists
Prepares and updates the functional statements of the PACT CPS, and HBPC and anticoagulation clinical pharmacists

Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT)
Candidates at the GS-13 grade level must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia

In addition to the GS-12 requirements, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level
Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the professional and administrative management of an assigned area in pharmacy service, to include budgetary execution
Such individuals have responsibilities for supervising multiple pharmacists and technicians
Manages people, maintains effective interdepartmental relations, and cooperates with other services to accomplish the medical facility's mission and goals
Develops performance standards, assures that the program area is compliant with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements, designs and implements orientation and training programs for staff, and develops and maintains systems to monitor the performance of staff activities
Develops policies and procedures relative to their assigned area
Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff
Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions
Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards pertaining to pharmacy
Skill in managing people or programs
