Agency Attorney Level III

The City of New York is seeking a Full-time Agency Attorney Level III for the Equal Employment Opportunity Office within the Fire Department. The successful candidate will conduct investigations of complex EEO violations, prepare written summaries, and provide EEO training for FDNY employees.

Responsibilities

Conduct investigations of complex EEO violations
Conduct interviews of complainants, respondents, and witnesses
Gather relevant documents and prepare written summaries of investigations and closing memos to the Assistant Commissioner for EEO, including referrals to the appropriate bureaus for action
Research legal issues relating to EEO law
Conduct EEO compliance inspections
Conduct thorough intake interviews and draft detailed and timely intake reports
Conduct EEO training for FDNY employees, EEO counselors, and FDNY units as needed
Assist in the development of EEO statistics and reports

Required

Admission to the New York State Bar
One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar
Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086)
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment
To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment
To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment

Preferred

Prior investigative and/or litigation experience is strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of Title VII of the Civil Rights Law of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and New York State and City Human Rights Laws
Excellent writing, analytical, communications, and people skills
Ability to complete assigned tasks in an independent, organized, and timely manner
