Project Manager Intern – TEP
The City of New York is seeking a motivated Project Manager Intern to join the Division of Transportation Planning & Management. The role involves assisting in the design and implementation of transportation planning and engineering projects, conducting environmental studies, and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to enhance safety and mobility on the City's streets.

Responsibilities
Assist in the review of environmental studies under CEQR/SEQR/NEPA processes using the analytical procedures presented in the CEQR Technical Manual
Assist in conducting a variety of traffic operations and safety studies following the Department’s guidance on levels-of-service (LOS) analyses for signalized/unsignalized intersections and pedestrian elements (i.e., sidewalks, crosswalks, and street corners) using a variety of analysis tools including Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Synchro/SimTraffic, and other traffic simulation models (i.e., VISSIM, etc.) to develop and test improvement measures to ameliorate congestion, improve mobility, and enhance safety of all street users
Perform engineering reviews of schematic geometric designs and Design Approval Document/Preliminary Design Investigation reports for capital reconstruction projects, and other transportation projects using the NYSDOT Project Development Manual, Highway Design Manual, and Environmental Manual
Assist senior staff in organizing and preparing written reports and graphic materials for presentations; maintain project management systems for tracking project progress and providing project data; participate in technical and advisory committee meetings; coordinate with City agencies and consultants; and interact with other agency representatives on Department studies and projects
Work independently and as part of a team and will work mainly in the office but may be required to conduct occasional field work
Qualification
Required
To be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title of Project Manager Intern, or be reachable on the civil service list for Project Manager Intern
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration; or
A master's degree in architecture that is the first professional degree in architecture from an accredited college or university
The candidate should have a clear understanding of the four-step transportation planning process and its application to land use and transportation
The candidate should have a working knowledge of environmental review and safety assessments and be able to summarize and analyze data
The candidate should have a working knowledge of AutoCAD for purposes of preparing graphics for inclusion in the Department's reports and presentations, as well as of AutoTurn for verifying vehicle turning maneuvers
Valid NYS Driver's License required
Preferred
Experience in CEQR, SEQR and/or NEPA processes
Proficiency in HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, AutoCAD, AutoTurn, and/or knowledge of traffic simulation models (i.e., VISSIM, etc.), as well as knowledge of traffic engineering/transportation planning principles and the traffic/transportation aspects of environmental impact studies
Knowledge of Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), MUTCD, the AASHTO Green Book, the CEQR Technical Manual, and the NYSDOT Project Development Manual, Highway Design Manual, and Environmental Manual
Excellent writing and oral presentation skills preferred
