Lead, Material Process Engineer

The Lead, Materials & Process Engineer will support engineering and manufacturing development programs, utilizing expertise in non-metallic materials to resolve production issues and enhance manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
Provide on-site support at L3Harris manufacturing facilities and supplier manufacturing facilities, as required, to assist in troubleshooting and problem solving production issues related to tape-wrapping and compression molding ablative materials such as carbon/phenolic and silica/phenolic
Collaborate with Design and Manufacturing Engineers to develop robust manufacturing processes for various solid rocket motor components
Support design process by providing material selection recommendations, creating material specifications, reviewing design drawings, reviewing manufacturing planning, providing supplier technical support and supporting Engineering Review Boards, Process Change Boards, Failure Review Boards customer technical interchange meetings
Develop test plans in coordination with Design and Analysis disciplines and characterize non-metallic materials; analyze material properties and develop design allowables per industry standards; summarize material properties and design allowable methodology in a written report
Perform engineering analysis of non-conforming hardware including coordination of analysis for disposition of Material Review Board documents. Maintain interactions with customers on materials obsolescence. Conduct project progress reviews to ensure program control. Conduct failure analyses to determine root cause, document technical conclusions of failure investigations
Travel: 15% - to support work at suppliers and other enterprise locations
Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior materials or chemical engineering experience
Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior materials or chemical engineering experience
In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior materials or chemical engineering experience
6 years experience with polymeric materials
Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Polymer Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or appropriate discipline is preferred
Master's degree in one of the above disciplines is preferred
Knowledge of chemical principles, thermodynamics, polymer chemistry, structure/property relationships, kinetics, and data analysis is essential
Experience with polymeric materials, statistical analysis, and instruments used to characterize properties of polymeric materials or their precursors
Knowledge of high temperature mechanical and thermal testing of ablative materials, graphite, carbon-carbon and ceramic matrix composites
