Podiatrist - Chief Health Informatics Officer

The VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System is seeking a Chief Health Informatics Officer in Harlingen, TX. The Chief Health Informatics Officer (CHIO) is responsible for the overall operation and successful integration in the development, implementation, and communication of clinical informatics processes to facilitate and support the mission to provide a continuum of quality care to our Veterans.

Responsibilities

Oversees all administrative aspects of the Health Informatics Program, to include but not limited to budget and fiscal management, human resource management, strategic planning, and program development, and assuring that the clinical and administrative functions are integrated in order to provide optimum utilization of the available resources
Ensures the quality and timeliness of the services provided, customer satisfaction, as well as compliance with standards of accrediting bodies such as the Joint Commission and the Inspector General's Combined Assessment Program
Responsible for appropriate use of available resources as well as for inspiring, motivating, and guiding the Health Informatics staff in achieving the strategic goals and plans of the service
Collaborates with other Service Chiefs and program managers in fulfilling their responsibilities
Accountable to the Chief of Staff for managing the programs and services pertaining to informatics
Ensures adequate resources are available to support the functionality of clinical and administrative applications and the interrelationship of those applications to the operation of those clinical services
Advises leadership of potential technical/administrative difficulties that may be incurred as a result of CPRS and related applications and provides creative resolutions within appropriate mandates/guidelines
Ensures that applicable performance measures scores are maintained at an acceptable level as defined by standards and goals set by VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend executive leadership and higher headquarters
Establishes quality control measures and associated data collection activities to ensure appropriate and accurate routing of consults
Responsible for ensuring that systems support specialists (Clinical Application Coordinators, Health Informatics Specialists) time is appropriately utilized
Demonstrates a mastery of leading organizational change, fostering collaboration, communicating effectively, and managing large scale projects related to information platforms. In addition, including how business processes influence health care delivery and the flow of data among the major domains of the health care system
Facilitates the enhanced use of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other technology to various levels of leadership and clinical staff
Works to ensure informatics program is in line with appropriate goals and objectives

Required

Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs
Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia

All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959

Must pass pre-employment physical examination
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
You may be required to serve a probationary period

Preferred

Two (2) years of prior VHA CHIO experience within the last 5 years
Completion of AMIA 10X10 course or equivalent
Informatics Board Certification
Lean 6 Sigma Green Belt Certification
Completion of LDI or equivalent leadership course
