Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs using Ruby on Rails to power core commerce functionality (checkout flows, invoicing, subscription billing, tax compliance, etc.)
Develop rich, dynamic user interfaces in React that make complex payment processes feel intuitive and delightful
Integrate AI tooling and agents to streamline product, operational, and development workflows
Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Data to align on user experience and performance goals
Lead system design conversations, participate in architecture reviews, and contribute to long-term platform direction
Write clean, testable, maintainable code and provide thoughtful peer reviews
Support the reliability and security of payment systems — including PCI compliance and fraud mitigation practices
Champion robust monitoring and observability practices with Datadog
Provide technical leadership and ownership delivering amazing features to our Heroes
Qualification
Required
Strong expertise in Ruby on Rails
Strong expertise in React
Strong expertise in Postgres
Hands-on experience using AI tooling, including agents
Experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend systems and APIs using Ruby on Rails
Experience developing rich, dynamic user interfaces in React
Experience integrating AI tooling and agents to streamline workflows
Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Data
Experience leading system design conversations and participating in architecture reviews
Ability to write clean, testable, maintainable code
Experience supporting the reliability and security of payment systems, including PCI compliance
Experience championing robust monitoring and observability practices with Datadog
Ability to make pragmatic decisions and commit fully to execution and delivery
Experience shipping features that impacted key commerce metrics
Deep experience working with Stripe's APIs
Ability to balance speed and quality in software development
Experience using automation, developer tooling, and AI-assisted workflows
Confidence working across the stack, especially in Ruby on Rails, React, and Postgres
Ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional environment
Comfortable querying production data to validate assumptions and diagnose issues
Resilience and curiosity when faced with unexpected behavior in complex systems
Ability to communicate with clarity and intention
Ability to design production-ready solutions from day one
Ability to help level up the team by offering thoughtful feedback
Preferred
Familiarity with international payments and currency support
Contributions to open-source Rails or React projects
Experience building tools for content creators
Familiarity with product analytics tools (e.g., Amplitude, Looker, Hex, Rudderstack)
Operational experience deploying on cloud based infrastructure and monitoring via Datadog
