Automotive Acoustic Application Engineer

Responsibilities

Providing application development support to Automotive OEMs and related tier suppliers for applications related to acoustics, noise, vibration, harshness (NVH)
Identify the best 3M solution for an application through testing and analyzing the results. Communicate results to customers through technical reports
Develop new applications by determining key performance requirements, participating in part design reviews, and training our customers on the proper use of 3M products
Provide support for new programs by working with OEM & Tier launch teams, reviewing the process, & providing training as necessary
Troubleshoot applications with issues by working with the OEM & Tier to identify the root cause & implement solutions
Provide "voice of customer" and new product ideas to the Development Lab and Marketing
Work closely with new product development team on the launch and introduction of new 3M products into the automotive market
Share key learnings, train, and support 3M global organization
Willingness to be on-call and travel on short notice

Required

Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Three years of experience providing technical support for automotive applications in a private, public, government or military environment
Current, valid Driver's License

Preferred

Experience in the design and/or application development of automotive parts focused on the management of noise, vibration and harshness
Familiarity with attachment strategies including adhesives, tapes and mechanical fasteners
Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry
3 plus years of experience in the automotive industry as an application engineer highly desired
Experience in technical support activities with customers
Experience in part design, development and validation
Strong problem solving / troubleshooting skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written)
Strong people skills and ability to influence, collaborate, and work with cross-functional team
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and accommodate changing circumstances
Self-directed and internally motivated with proven leadership skills
Ability to work with conflicting, delayed or ambiguous information
