Intern - Guardrail Inspection Engineering (Summer)

Responsibilities
Perform field inspections of guardrail installations in the Aberdeen and Mitchell Regions in South Dakota to ensure compliance with current design standards
Field measurement, evaluation, and documentation
Inspection of various types of guardrail and barriers
Documentation and risk assessment
Understanding the common issues with guardrail installations
Using engineering judgement
Learning new software
Setting up traffic control
Reviewing department policies, procedures, manuals, and standard plates
Qualification
Required
Applicant must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Preferred
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
