Responsibilities

Learn Professional Standards and How to Complete a Workpaper:
Read GAGAS and department workpaper standards
Review workpapers from a sample of preparers to determine if the workpapers met the department standards. Document elements missing. Read the documentation to see if you can understand as an outside reader what was performed and re-perform the work to see if you came to the same result as explained in the procedure and conclusion
Complete your own workpapers (at least 4) and respond to notes received from your manager. Complete the work within the allotted time for the procedure
Plan for an audit: Perform the planning sections and what steps you as an auditor should perform to prep for a new audit
Learn a program: Which program can be determined based on what audit would be available to work
Team Dynamics: Determine how to function as part of a team working on an audit. How to provide updates/work with green reviewers, blue reviewers, and fellow preparers to meet overall team milestones/objectives
Reporting: what to do if you think you have an exception. When to communicate it. Next steps
Wrap up an audit: Determine what steps you should perform to wrap up an audit
Customer Focus: Develop an onboarding manual to be used across the AAD department
Determine the same items that are consistent within all areas and create a manual that can be consistent across the department. Allow a section for the individual team (BCAP or PQA) to insert their own section
Assist in the BCAP Plan 2023 development
Prepare excel files for data analytics (i.e., extract data from OpenData, filter information and ensure completeness and accuracy of population)
Propose sample selections based on risk factors (i.e., apply randomizer and high-dollar selection techniques)
Summarize sample results and present them in word document (executive summary) and PowerPoint presentation
Assist in the resource analysis to determine hours available
Learn Regulations and how they impact the work we do: Read through Lifeline regulations and orders to see how the regulations get updated. Determine the impact on our audit program. Make sure we have all necessary updates for 2024 plan year
Assist in the updates to the audit procedures for BCAP 2024 plan
Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with excellent written and verbal communications
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with a general understanding of data analysis techniques
Ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team as well as acting autonomously as appropriate

Required

Current student in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate
You must be at least 18 years old to apply
You must be a rising junior or senior student attending an accredited college or university, or a first-year post-graduate within the first year of your program. Nontraditional students may apply
Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher to remain eligible for the program
Interns must work for a minimum of 16 hours per week (and no more than 19 hours a week) in the USAC office in Washington, DC
Sponsorship for the USAC Career Path internship program is not available for foreign nationals
Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with excellent written and verbal communications
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with a general understanding of data analysis techniques
Ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team as well as acting autonomously as appropriate
