Responsibilities

Prepares, revises, and maintains all documents and timeline requirements related to the Magnet Recognition Program®
Responsible for submitting applications and interim monitoring reports
Collects, or facilitates the collection of supporting evidence, data and documentation for the Magnet program
Develops a timeline, with milestones, for data submission and ensures that members of the organization comply with timelines and data submission requirements
Maintains current knowledge of Magnet designation/re-designation standards and requirements
Develops and implements organizational strategies and infrastructures to support clinical quality, operational effectiveness, and shared leadership
Acts as a liaison with all departments within the medical center to promote nursing excellence and further the Magnet program philosophy
Provides a systematic approach to Magnet project management and implementation, coordinating all phases of designation and re-designation
Uses in depth assessment and analysis to determine organizational readiness for Magnet designation/re-designation
Works collaboratively with clinical and support departments, and nursing leadership to close identified gaps and to improve systems and processes to assure compliance with Magnet designation/re-designation criteria
Creates an environment of motivation and commitment to the Magnet philosophy through celebration and continuous communication of the Magnet requirements
Collaborates with key constituents to develop operational and marketing plans related to the Magnet Recognition Program® re-designation process
Accountable for analysis and summarization of data reports, statistics and other materials to sustain and advance Magnet Recognition Program® re-designation status
Assesses learning needs of staff with regard to Magnet Recognition Program® re-designation and implements education as needed. Provides resources to all shifts based on analysis of learning needs
Ensures the annual review of the Professional Practice Model is conducted and requests for updates are implemented and disseminated
Presents findings from organizational assessments and disseminates information in a variety of forms (oral, electronic, and written) to ensure an accurate and timely flow of information to advance Magnet Recognition Program® designation
Recommends changes in the clinical practice environment to governance councils and leadership which may be required to sustain Magnet Recognition Program® designation
Provides support to the Chief Nursing Officer/nursing and hospital administration regarding education of the public and internal constituents related to the Magnet Recognition Program®
Maintains current knowledge of national clinical practice standards and standards of practice from regulatory agencies including the Magnet Recognition Program®, CMS, The Joint Commission, etc
Coordinates timely notification to the Magnet Program Office re: leadership changes, critical events and other communication required to maintain designation status in good standing
Collaborates with key stakeholders to illustrate in written and graphical form how quality indicators, variances and corrective actions are used to improve care
Collaborates with the shared governance councils to improve the quality of care using NDNQI data and other relevant outcomes data
Illustrates how research and evidence-based practice are used by staff to improve care process and patient outcomes
Provides leadership for and participates in unit, divisional, departmental and /or interdepartmental committees, and community and professional organizations related to Magnet Recognition Program® re-designation
Participates in activities that enhance the organizations clinical expertise and knowledge of the Magnet Recognition Program®
Contributes to the achievement of established CPPD departmental goals and objectives. Adheres to department policies, procedures, quality and safety standards. Complies with governmental and other regulatory agencies’ standards
Serves as a site coordinator for the Nursing Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and is accountable for the submission of nursing sensitive indicators
Serves as the survey coordinator for the NDNQI RN Satisfaction survey. Facilitates the completion of the survey report and dissemination of results to patient care services leadership
Actively participates, facilitates and provides leadership in Nursing Shared Governance Council(s) and subgroups, as well as effectively participates in multidisciplinary committees or councils to advocate for nursing excellence and promote evidence-based practice changes to achieve compliance with Magnet requirements
Provides leadership, knowledge and resources to the Magnet Champions in collaboration with the Chair of the Magnet Champion Subgroup
Coordinates the development of the Nursing Annual Report
Collaborates with and participates in a Magnet Coordinators Network
Proactively assesses the environment and literature to identify opportunities for improvement to meet, exceed, and/or maintain the Magnet designation requirements
Illustrates how research and evidence-based practice are used by staff to improve care processes and patient outcomes through assisting individuals and groups in the development of posters and presentations for local, regional, and national conferences
Collaborates with unit and department leadership to identify optimal outcome metrics to evaluate clinical and administrative programs important for Magnet designation/re-designation
Participates in the organizational oversight of nursing outcomes required by the Magnet program. Monitors and interprets data and facilitates the development and implementation of innovative strategies to improve outcomes
Provides direction for development, implementation and maintenance of Magnet orientation programs for both licensed and unlicensed nursing staff

Required

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact State agreements outlined through the Maryland Board of Nursing, is required
Master's degree in Nursing required
A minimum of five (5) years of hospital experience is required
Clinical and professional knowledge regarding current issues affecting healthcare delivery, quality management and professional practice is required
Knowledge regarding group dynamics, organizational change and methodologies for affecting change through leadership are required
Ability to independently develop and manage organizational level projects
Ability to plan, organize and follow through on projects
Demonstrated success in a leadership role exhibiting teaching, coaching and development skills
Demonstrated effectiveness in a consultative role at the organizational level
Knowledge of database management and data analysis is required

Preferred

Prior Magnet Program experience preferred
Demonstrated use of a statistical software package is preferred
