Surveying Technician (Temporary Seasonal)
The BLM Colorado State Office is seeking temporary seasonal Surveying Technicians to assist in various surveying tasks across multiple locations in Colorado. The role involves supporting Land Surveyors in data reduction and performing technical survey duties.

Responsibilities
Assists Land Surveyors in the reduction of data from raw field form to latitudes and departures of coordinates for mathematical analysis
Reduces solar and stellar observations for determining azimuth
Computes closures, inverses and proportional segments for restoring lost property corners
Survey Technician must demonstrate the ability to safely operate motor vehicles. In most cases, this will be a 4-wheel drive vehicle or ATV
Performs a full range of technical survey duties

You cannot hold an active real estate license: nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands

An applicant appointed to this position must possess (or obtain within 30 days of entrance on duty) and maintain a valid state driver's license while employed in this position
For GS-05: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples include: Recorded survey evidence and measurement dates and corner descriptions in a field book. Occasionally operated electronic measuring equipment, satellite positioning instruments, and portable electronic calculators while serving on survey crews performing cadastral, geodetic and/or control surveys
For GS-05: A bachelor's degree. Examples include: (a) with major study in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. For GS-05: Combination of Education and Experience totaling 100%: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate education. Education must be directly related to the work of a Survey Technician such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. Transcripts must be provided
For GS-06: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples include: Served as instrument person on a variety of surveys, using a transit, level, distance measuring device, and/or other specialized survey instruments. Prepared or reviewed the preparation of field notes, random line diagrams, and computations to determine whether closures are within prescribed lines of accuracy. Assisted in corner calculations and monumentation and recording of corner positions
For GS-06: One year graduate level education (18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours) directly related to the work of a Survey Technician such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. Transcripts must be provided
For GS-06: Combination of Education and Experience totaling 100%: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education directly related to the work of a Survey Technician such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. Transcripts must be provided
For GS-07: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples include: Served as occasional crew chief on survey crews. Assisted in the training and/or directed the activities of other survey aids and technicians in the gathering and recordation of survey data and setting of boundary corner monumentation. Assured proper procedures are used in the monumentation of corners, markings of corners and accessories and recordation of data
For GS-07: One year graduate level education (18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours) directly related to the work of a Survey Technician such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. Transcripts must be provided
For GS-07: Combination of Education and Experience totaling 100%: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education directly related to the work of a Survey Technician such as surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles
Work Environment: Office work is performed in a setting that is adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated. When doing fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests or animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications
