City Utilities of Springfield has been connecting the community to essential services since 1945. They are seeking an Engineering Tech Intern to assist the Corrosion Protection group by performing corrosion surveys, logging inspection data, and maintaining facilities according to specifications.

Responsibilities

Perform corrosion surveys using corrosion pipeline industry instruments such as electrical measuring instruments, electronic locator equipment, and various other tools. Take pipe to soil potential readings, check for electrically shorts, and perform visual inspection of natural gas facilities
Log inspection data utilizing hardware and software provided by City Utilities
Paint natural gas meter sets and other facilities as designated per City Utilities’ specifications
Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee

Required

High school graduate or equivalent is required
Must be enrolled in college or technical school
Valid driver's license (minimum Class F) required
Subject to Department of Transportation's and/or Public Service Commission's drug testing requirements and Gas Operator Qualification requirements
Working knowledge of electrical concepts and problem-solving techniques
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate technical work
Ability to effectively handle numerous assignments simultaneously
Ability to demonstrate a customer-focused orientation and project a positive image of the Utility to the public
Ability to be dependable for the nature of the work
Ability to effectively utilize a range of digital tools and platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise software, artificial intelligence-enhanced applications, and self-service systems
Must possess a willingness and capacity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including mobile devices, cloud-based systems, and data-driven platforms relevant to utility operations
Maintain adherence to all company policies
Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people
Employees must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to respond to changing circumstances in a timely manner
New hires are informed of the requirements of the Internship Program upon hire, and incumbents must continue to meet the requirements each semester in order to continue employment
